I have never yet tried to make a list of my favourite novels. But I compiled enough lists of my favourite records when I was a teenager to know the impossibility of the task. While it is wonderful to have made The Culture Show’s list of 12 of the best new novelists, I am well aware that a different panel of judges (or the same panel on a different day) might have reached a different verdict. The Editor - March 21st, 2011
What a thrill to have two such fantastic novels on the Orange longlist. You always wonder how the books you’ve commissioned will be received. Will people love them as much as you do? Will they hate them?! In the end, you have to trust your taste and hope the books find an audience. Both of the novels chosen by the Orange Prize have such heart.
